Recently, a famous brand, Kao announce that Eliminates "whitening" from its brands in all cosmetic packaging, because it raises concerns surrounding racial inequality, you may know it by the Black Lives Matter movement.

The new Twany range of products line has already adopted the new word "brightening" instead of "whitening.", starting release in March. The goal is to replace that word on all of this merchandise packaging within a few years.

Lightening skin using cleansers, moisturizers and makeup has been a longstanding trend in Japan. The word often used to describe lightening in the Japanese skincare industry is "MEIBAI" (bihaku), which translates to "beautiful white."

The brand Kao says it doesn't want to send out the message that white skin tone is inferior or superior to another, and decided to drop the wording as a part of its commitment to promoting diversity.

That brand having this run change comes after Unilever, Johnson & Johnson and L'Oréal made similar alterations to their wording recently. Kao is the first Japanese cosmetics maker to make the switch of cosmetic packaging run change.
